Efficient Administration in Smallworld GIS

ITS Toolbox Admin is comprised of various tools to efficiently administer Smallworld applications. Next to these straightforward administration tools, the toolbox also offers functions for standard users, for example, for managing feature class reading rights and assigning ACE alternatives. This solution also contains functions for maintaining enumeration values which can be used to clean up databases.

  • Enumeration matches and statistics
  • Copying reading rights between ACEs
  • Adjusting reading rights using wildcard functions
  • User functions for adopting ACE settings
  • Extension for Smallworld GIS authorisation

Product Description

Statistics fur Enumerations

The ITS module “Catalogue and Enumerator Statistics” is used to evaluate enumerations. This is mainly relevant vor editing data sets and to improve data quality. GIS data is increasingly gaining importance when it comes to evaluations. Organisations and associations require clear attribute data for various statistcs. Most of these statisitics are based on enumeration values. Users can generate a list of tables where a specific enumeration value occurs. A more detailed depiction is also available to show the number of objects applying each enumeration value. These lists can be exported in various formats. They are also accessible in the Smallworld Explorer.

Matching Enumeration Values

The tool “ITS Enumeration Maintenance” serves to maintain sector-specific enumerations in Smallworld GIS. This means that altered enumeration values are transferred to affected sectors and their objects as well as to other enumerations. As a result, manual editing is not required. All modified objects are logged in a protocol file. Usually, numerous feature classes are referenced with one enumeration. If an enumeration value is modified, it will affect various feature classes. Without the tool “ITS Enumeration Maintenance”, these feature classes would have to be edited separately in order to update enumeration values for affected objects in different sectors. This type of manual update requires immense resources, making this tool very efficient.

Managing Reading Rights for Feature Classes

This toolbox contains functions for managing feature class visibility. Wildcards can be used to comfortably adjust settings, for example, for special maps. It is possible to enter “ST MS-*” for the feature class name and “D*” for a geometry field in order fo find various medium voltage feature classes containing a geometry field for “detail map”. As a result, these identified feature classes can be made invisible.

Another function for managing visibility settings is to tick boxes in a table containing different geometry fields and map scales.

Copying Visibility Settings for Feature Classes

Copying visibility settings for feature classes between different ACEs is possible using a special function in the ITS Toolbox Admin. This reduces the workload for ACEs with identical visibility settings.

Adopting ACE Settings

Functions for adopting ACE settings are available so that users can apply ACE settings from the main alternative to the ACE sub-alternative. Usually, this is done by the administrator who matches sub-alternative ACE settings. A function is also available to automatically adopt these settings when a user logs into the system. Furthermore, users can trigger an ACE alternative update in a short period of time.

Authorisation Extension

One of the main authorisation extensions includes alternative definitions that are applied to users when they launch the application. As a result, various configurations for launch alternatives can be defined. This definition is applied to relevant users. It is also possilbe to specify in which mode the alternative is available for users and whether it is automatically updated during the launch of the application. A context menu containing settings for table and alternative rights is available as an authorisation extension. This is especially efficient for editing rights in a multi-selection.
